Renovation and Redesign of the Dockkoogspitze

For many residents of Husum as well as visiting tourists, the Dockkoogspitze is a truly special place: a spot for walking, taking a deep breath, swimming, and simply enjoying the surroundings—situated directly on the North Sea and in close proximity to the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park.To ensure that this popular area is preserved for the long term, remains safe for continued use, and simultaneously meets modern coastal protection standards, the site will undergo extensive renovation and redesign starting in mid-April 2026.

Current Developments at the Dockkoog

There is good news regarding the current season: Thanks to recently granted permits, swimming operations can resume on a limited basis.Supervision will be provided by the DLRG (German Life Saving Association), thereby ensuring a safe swimming environment.

The on-site amenities are also being expanded: Approximately 60 beach chairs are available for rent. The "WunderBar" is opening for daily business, serving guests a selection of food and drinks. This ensures that the Dockkoog remains an attractive destination for excursions, even during the upcoming construction phase.

Construction Process and Schedule

The project measures will be implemented in two construction phases: Phase 1: 2026 Phase 2: 2027 Official construction is scheduled to begin on April 15, 2026. In 2026, the primary focus will be on key infrastructure improvements.Foremost among these is the creation of barrier-free access to the water, aimed at making the beach more accessible to everyone. Additional measures are planned for the subsequent construction phase, including—among other things—the renovation of the existing playground. The playground will remain open throughout the current season.

Reasons for the Planned Closure

In addition to organizational requirements, legal regulations and safety considerations play a decisive role in this project. The construction work must be completed within a specific timeframe—specifically, before the storm surge season begins. The safety of everyone involved, as well as the smooth execution of the construction process, remain the highest priorities throughout this project.Delays could lead to significantly longer restrictions.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Path Remains Open

The pedestrian and bicycle path along the North Sea between Schobüll and Husum will remain open for use throughout the entire construction period.
